The Battle of the Diaper Pail

New thing for me this week? Starting a registry. Wow it’s a bigger job than I thought. There’s so many brands to choose from, so many potential places to register. One particular battle I faced today was the Diaper Genie vs. the Diaper Champ.

Which is better? Where did you research what would be best for you and your family??

  1. I have the Diaper Genie 2. It is the best! You can’t smell a thing. The refills are kind of expensive but if you use a coupon then it’s not that bad. It’s tall and can be put and hidden in a corner. Also when registering I liked Buy Buy Baby much better than Babies R Us. They are so helpful and knowledgeable about products.

  2. Neither. They are not nessecary. Just get a trash can with a lid. Thats what all the daycares use. The bag refills for those things are expensive and i’ve heard a TON of people say they dont even keep the smells in.
Plus if you decide to save even more money and go cloth then you wont need it anyways 😉 (Im a consultant for Everything birth if you want some more info on cloth, just shoot me a email or find me on fb Diaper Parties by Vanessa) Whatever you choose though- the whole diaper genie/champ thing is a waste of money IMO 🙂

  3. Diaper Champ all the way… Use any type of garbage bag, no custom fitted refills. Keeps smells OK – nothing works perfectly, but its much better than a garbage can with lid. Using the same diaper champ on kid #2 now, I throw poopy diapers out right away & just put the wet ones in the diaper Champ. Kinda defeats the purpose, but my kid has potent poops 🙂 I also keep a renuzit odor absorber thing in the bottom – it doesn’t have a fragrance, I actually don’t know if it even works, but I put it in there & the room doesn’t smell. Then I don’t have to carry each diaper downstairs after I change the baby. If you’re all on one floor, I’d just throw the diapers in your regular garbage & be done with it – you may not need either one.

  4. Diaper Genie for the first one and we thought we were awesome..then the second just took the extra 3 seconds to put them outside…why would anyone in their right mind store dirty diapers inside and when you go to change the bag you have the combined smell of 15 diapers 3-4 days old rotting in the room where you baby sleeps.. vote neither …small garbage that you take out every day with the rest of your other dirty crap.

  5. Diaper Genie has worked great for both boys. For advice on all things to buy for baby get the book “Baby Bargains” and make sure it’s the most recent edition. You can find it on Amazon or the publishers’ website (https://windsorpeak.com/sites/). Amazon is usually cheaper. And, we buy most things baby on Amazon’s site, including dispers and wipes. Join Amazon mom for 15% savings. And use their “subscribe & save” feature for an additional 15% savings on certain products. Also had good luck with Babies R Us. We registered at BRU, Amazon, & Pottery Barn Kids. Baby Gap also has nice home furnishings for Baby – like sheets. I could go on and on … Get my contact info from my sister (Kristi) to talk via phone. 🙂

    • I just saw that Amazon has lowered it’s discount on diapers and wipes from 30% with Amazon Mom/Subscribe & Save options to 20% … not happy. Check out diapers.com to see if better deals.

  6. Just used the trash. I had a drawer full of plastic bags from Target / Jewel that I would l just use and put in the garage outside. I had a Diaper Genie but it got annoying having to empty it all the tiime and the bags were expensive. It also never held a lot of diapers plus didn’t hold the smell in that much. I just want the diapers outside. Stinky!
